The Colegio de Graduados en Antropología de la República Argentina (CGA) is a professional organization founded by the Constitutive Assembly of July 27, 1972. As a national professional association (legal registration # 351838), it includes an important proportion of anthropologists engaged in practice in Argentina.

The first graduates in Anthropology entered the academic and professional arena in the 1960s, and in 1972 they summoned an assembly to create the representative association of Argentine anthropologists – including all specialized fields - aimed at protecting their professional specificity.

The members of the new association then outlined a Statute which established the following objectives: a) to promote the hierarchization of the professional role; b) to establish and protect the professional rights of anthropologists ; c) to promote research activities; d) to promote cooperation and the sharing of information among the colleagues; and e) to enforce a code of ethics.

It is important to emphasize that the Association had a crucial role during the 1970s at several Universities, when the authorities tried to eliminate the Degree in Anthropology from the curriculum. The dispute contributed to strengthen the community of anthropologists and to position the Association in the antagonistic pole to dictatorship. In 1990 the Association participated as institutional founder in the creation of the Latin American Association of Anthropology (ALA), and since 1993 its became the National Delegation at the Permanent Council of the International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences (IUAES). After six years of inactivity, due to the national crisis of 2001, the Association renews its commitment to the defense and the promotion of the Argentine anthropologists and plans to rebuild its publishing capacity in the near future (The Monographic Serie, The Didactic Serie, La Gaceta/The Gazette and the journal “Publicar - En Antropología y Ciencias Sociales”/Publishing - On Anthropology and Social Sciences). For the time being, it publishes an electronic bulletin and the principal mean of communication is the website.
